Citizens changing any information/photograph/signature etc from their identity cards should apply to Department of National Registration, & citizens who apply to islands would get the service from collecting points. The following describes the procedure:

In Male’

1. Issue a token number from the reception. Submit the filled application form with necessary documents (listed in ‘documents & forms required’) to application collecting counters.
2. Wait in the waiting area until your name is announced to take your photograph.
3. Collect the slip stating the date & time to collect the national identity card.
4. Visit to DNR on the date stated on the slip. Handover the slip to the reception & receive a token number, & wait in the waiting area. Go to the counter where your number is displayed & collect the identity card after stamping your finger print.
5. People who come to receive the identity card on behalf of the owner should come with their own identity card & the collection slip. If the person who comes to collect the identity card does not have the collection slip he/she should have a letter from the owner.

Collecting Points (Province)

1. Submit the filled application form with necessary documents (listed in ‘documents & forms required’) to collecting points.
2. Give your finger print & signature once your photograph is taken & obtain the originals of all the documents submitted with the application form.
3. When informed to collect the identity card, go to the collecting point or island office & obtain the identity card after signing to confirm that you received the identity card.
4. If you want to collect the identity card from Male’ (applied through collecting points) fax a letter through island office or write on the side of application form the name & address of the person who will collect the identity card. Otherwise the cards will be available from the collecting points (card owners mother, father, or kin does not have to bring a letter)

Collecting points from abroad

1. Submit the filled application form with necessary documents (listed in ‘documents & forms required’) to collecting points.
2. Give your finger print & signature once your photograph is taken & obtain the originals of all the documents submitted with the application form.
3. When informed to collect the identity card, go to the collecting point & obtain the identity card after signing to confirm that you received the identity card.
4. If you want to collect the identity card from Male’ (applied through collecting points from abroad) bring a letter from the owner including the name & address of the person who would collect the card or write on the side of application form the name & address of the person who will collect the identity card. Otherwise the cards would not be available.

• If change in address (people’s registry of the house/Male’)(If registered in an island, registration is not needed)
• If change in name, birth date (birth certificate & people’s registry should be provided if registered in Male’)( If registered in an island, registration is not needed)
• Official documents from a court (court order documents)
• Extra documents are not needed to change photograph or signature.

• If you submit the application form before 9:30am, the identity card will be provided the same day before 3:00pm. Or else the card will be provided on the next working day (from Male’)
