Categories are added to the License Card by the Transport Division under Ministry of Housing Transport and Environment, upon the request by customer. The following describes the procedure.

·         Should be a Maldivian citizen

·         Should be of age 18 or above

·         The category requested must be approved by the Ministry of Housing, Transport and Environment.

1.     Submit the filled application form with the necessary documents and form (listed in “Documents and Forms required) to the information counter of and obtain the acknowledgement slip. (This slip will be issued only when all the documents are submitted)

2.     Take a token number and when your number is displayed, submit the acknowledgement slip (issued from information counter) to the service counter.

3.     Obtain the appointment slip stating the time, date and the location where the test would be held on form the service counter.

4.     Go to the Driving Site on the date and time specified on the Appointment Slip and inform to the examiner about your presence.

5.     When your name is called by the examiner, do the driving test as instructed by the examiner (Appointment slip and National Identity Card should be submitted to the examiner before when your name is called.)

6.     If you pass the Driving Test, the result will be informed immediately by the examiner.

7.     To obtain the License Card (with the added category mentioned); follow the Procedure for Obtaining License Card from the Ministry of Housing, Transport and Environment.

·         Filled LL1 Form (2883 KB )

·         Passport size photo (1) which has been taken not more than 3 months ago

·         National Identity Card (Copy)

·         License Card (Original)

·         Driving Permit issued previously with the License Card (Original)

·        Revenue Stamp worth Rf 50 (or Rf 50, if purchasing the stamp from counter)

·         Rf 250 for the License Card

·         Rf 50 for the Revenue Stamp (if purchasing the stamp from the counter)

·         To add categories to the license card, no theory test is required. However, a driving test has to be carried out.

·         When attending to do the driving test, come along with a vehicle which belongs to required category.

·         You must request for the license card within 60 days after passing the driving test.

·         If you have your License issued under B-Zone or C-Zone and wish to add another category vehicle under A-Zone, you are not required to undertake the Driving Test. However, you would be required to take the Zone License and the necessary documents (listed in “Documents and Forms required”) and pay the amount mentioned in “Fee”.

·         A- Zone: Includes vehicles in Male’, VilliMale’ and Hulhumale’.

·         B- Zone: Includes vehicles in HA, HDh, L, GA,GDh, GN,S Atoll.

·         C- Zone: Includes vehicles in Sh, N, R, B, Lh, K, AA, ADh, V, M, Dh,Th Atoll.

·         If you have failed the Driving Test, follow the above procedure 1 to 7. However, you would be provided an appointment for driving test after 7 days from the last date you have taken the driving test.
