Obtain a maldivian vehicle driving license based on a foreign license

 
SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Foreigners and Maldivian requiring obtaining a Vehicle Driving License permit to drive vehicles in Maldives need to apply for the service to Transport Division under Ministry of Housing, Transport and Environment.  The following describes the procedure.

Service available:                       08:00 am to 04:00 pm, working days.

Average time for service:            2 (two) days.

Number of visits required:           2 (two).

 
CRITERIA/PRE-REQUISITES

·         Must be 18 or above 18 years.

·        The foreign Vehicle Driving License should be a license which is accepted by MoTC.

·         The foreign Vehicle Driving License should not be expired.

·         The foreign Vehicle Driving License should not be a temporary license

 
PROCEDURE

1.     Take a token number and when your number is displayed, submit the filled application form with the necessary documents (listed in “documents and Forms required”) to the service counter. (when the staff at the counter checks the documents and form, collect the permit to drive form the counter)

2.     Make the payment and obtain the payment receipt. (The date and time to collect the driving license card and permit will be included in the payment receipt.)

3.     Go to the service counter on the date and time specified on the payment receipt (after taking a token number) and submit the payment receipt.

4.     Fill and submit the slip issued by the counter and obtain the Driving License and the Vehicle driving permit.

 
DOCUMENTS AND FORMS REQUIRED

·         Filled LL1 Form (2883 KB )

·         1 Passport size photo (taken no later than 03 months)

·         Foreign License Card (original and copy).

·         Passport (original and copy).

·         Work permit (original and copy) only for foreigners.

·         Payments slip (to collect the license).

·         National Identity card, if Maldivian (copy and original)

 
FEE

·         Rf 250 (for the Vehicle License Card).

·         Rf 50 (for the revenue stamp).

 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

·         If a Maldivian citizen wants to get a driving license based on the foreign driving license, that Maldivian should be required to submit the passport to verify whether he/she had lived in that particular country for no less than 6 months
